Chris Rudd (ABC) ‘Middle Whaddon Chase’. Chris Rudd puts this coin into an ‘Eastern’ group, which are found in Essex but not comfortably attributed to the Trinovantes or Catuvellauni. Within that, he puts it into a subgroup, ‘Cantian-inspired Gold and Silver Types’, which copy issues of the Cantii but are found north of the Thames. It may indicate that Cantian rulers held territory there, as does the presence of Thurrock potins.

Sills DK 446 (4 obverse, 7 reverse dies): Early North-East Thames Coinage; Type: British Le1/Essex Banded; Staters: Class 2 - Flared Mane. The obverse comes from Catuvellaunian Westbury (ABC 2442). The horse is not like British Lb, Lc or Ld but similar to the SS (ABC 2237). The mane is like that on the southern Ornate Yoke (Sills 215), likely the same engraver. There are similarities with the Cantian Weald Net (ABC 177). The associated quarter is the Beaded Trophy (ABC 2243).

Essex Banded mostly uniface gold is typologically unrelated to other north Thames issues. They might be contemporary to or later than British Ld/Ld. They are simiar to Gallo-Belgic D.
