Pianura
The Guadiana is a river in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It rises in the southern plateau (Ciudad Real) and flows east-west until, near the city of Badajoz, it turns south, maintaining this course until its mouth at Ayamonte (Huelva) in the Atlantic Ocean, where it discharges an average flow of 78.8 m³/s. In its lower course, the river, which flows through Spain and Portugal, forms the border between the two countries along numerous stretches. It is the fourth longest river in the Iberian Peninsula. Today, it is also called Guadiana in Portuguese, although its ancient name was Odiana.
