Silver medal. Commemorative medal produced in connection with the wedding of Frederick VIII of Denmark and Lovisa of Sweden in 1869. The marriage plans were made by Lovisa's parents, and since alliance marriages were common at this time, it was considered a good thing if a marriage could be arranged with the Danish royal family. A meeting was therefore arranged between Lovisa and the Danish Crown Prince Frederick at Bäckaskog Castle in Skåne. Everyone was satisfied with the meeting, and on July 15, 1868, Lovisa (16) became engaged to Frederick (25). The following year, on July 28, 1869, Lovisa (17) married Frederick (26) in the Stockholm Palace Chapel, and Lovisa thus became Crown Princess of Denmark.
