(en) A full-scale replica of Homer's legendary shield: The center features a prominent ultra-high relief engraving of a figure driving a horse-drawn chariot, representing Helios (the Sun god) racing across the sky. Surrounding the chariot are celestial symbols described by Homer, including stars and constellations (such as the Pleiades, the Hyades, and Orion) that Hephaestus forged at the shield's core. A large ring illustrates a peaceful city with a joyous wedding feast and a marketplace dispute settled by elders, contrasted with a city under siege with armies clashing, ambushes, and battles. The very edge is bounded by a stylized wave pattern representing the Great River Oceanus, which Homer described as encircling the entire outermost rim of the shield.
