The item was issued by the Council of Veterans of Space Fleet of the USSR (Совет ветеранов космического флота СССР).
The obverse depicts the Scientific Research Vessel "Cosmonaut Georgy Dobrovolsky" of Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 2005, the vessel was sold for scrap.

The reverse depicts the Scientific Research Vessel "Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin" of Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1996, the vessel was sold for scrap by authorities of the Ukraine.
