Astratto

In 2001, a pierced Roman bronze coin struck under Constantius II was found during examination of the poly-cultural locality in the track ‘Horní lán’, the Slavonín land register, in the filling no. 1222 dated back to the second half of the 5th century. No Roman bronze coins of the 5th century have been registered in Moravia up to date, and the coin from Olomouc represents the very first specimen safely dated back to the mentioned period. It is evident that it is not possible to anticipate any import of the contemporary struck small bronze coins in the 5th century. Interruption in relatively intensive flood of coins to Barbaricum obviously reflects leaving the Danube line by the Romans in the last quarter of the 4th century. The find from Olomouc Slavonín represents the important evidence for use of the small bronze coins, even after they ceased to be imported massively to Moravia.
