Suzanne joined the Maillarts in Nice in 1937, at the age of 26. In 1938, as a student in the Penat studio at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, she won the Second Second Prix de Rome in intaglio engraving on 5 July, also at Le Riche. André had no other collaborator than Suzanne. Reflecting her master to the end, she herself taught engraving for 30 years at the same School of Decorative Arts in Nice.
