(en) Arles has a long history of coin minting, since 313 when Emperor Constantine relocated the monetary workshop from Ostia to Arles (Arelatum / Constantina), with personnel and equipment. This mint remained very important until the end of the Empire. The city minted again in the Middle Ages, at first royal Carolingian coins, then feudal issues. The archbishops of Arles were the last to mint coins in Provence, until the 1520s under Jean Ferrier.
