About This Issue

By 1994, sales patterns for these products were fairly established; demand at the time didn’t hint at the stronger popularity these sets would later develop.

The Premier version recorded 149,320 sets sold. The coins match those in the regular 1994 silver proof set (the “Premier” distinction comes from the deluxe packaging, not different coin types).

Program Background (Premier vs. Other Sets)

The modern silver-proof format began in 1992, returning the dime, quarter, and half dollar to 0.900 silver in Proof sets and becoming a continuing product line.

The Silver Premier Proof Set format also started in 1992: the same five-coin lineup, but sold in upgraded presentation packaging. Premier Proof Sets are different from Prestige Proof Sets, which include one or more commemorative coins in addition to the regular proof set denominations.
