Since 2017, the 20-cent euro coin of San Marino has featured the Three Towers (from right to left: Guaita, Cesta, and Montale). These three ancient fortresses stand atop Mount Titano, which, along with the Historic Centre of San Marino, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
The First Tower, also known as the Guaita or simply the Rocca, is the largest of the three, has an octagonal plan, and dates back to the 11th century.
The Second Tower, called Cesta or Fratta, sits on the highest peak of Mount Titano at 756 meters above sea level, has a pentagonal plan, and currently houses the Museum of Ancient Weapons.
The Third and final Tower, known as Montale, also has a pentagonal plan and dates to the 13th century.
