Common statement from Amir, founder of Colnect, and Xavier, founder of Numista
  • We do our best to have a positive impact in the worldwide coin and banknote collectors community, in a spirit of healthy competition. We focus on offering the best services and creating the best catalogs for the users of both websites, in a respectful manner and without withholding information. Collectors should feel at ease to use one website or the other, or both websites.
  • We encourage the members and administrators of Colnect and Numista to have a positive attitude to the other community as we're all in the collecting world together and we all wish to enjoy this wonderful hobby.
  • We encourage the contributors to Colnect and to Numista to seek consent before reusing pictures or significant amount of data from other resources.
  • While we welcome sharing pictures to benefit both communities, we respect authors who choose to share pictures only with one community. We are willing to remove pictures accidentally added to our respective websites without the consent of the author of the pictures, upon request from the proven author; and to facilitate the process for such requests, even if there is no legal obligation to do so.
I agree with all the statements above, BUT, what will happen with all [...] content already published on Colnect? Will it be removed before getting the consent of the origianal owner, or will it stay published on Colnect? This issue must be solved first, before any "mutual respects" can be payed.
I suggest we try a fresh start with mutual respect. Let's respect them, and at the same time you can ask for removal in case some of your pictures were added to Colnect without your consent. You can direct such request through me if that's easier.

Thankyou Xavier - I have just skimmed their website and they have [some] of my photos on there. Some old and some new.

I did try once in the past to have them removed but gave up in the end because they, Amir, made it so very very difficult.

Since then they have taken even more of my photos of Australian coins directly from Numista and used them without permission. Even removing my watermarks to try to disguise that they have taken them.

So what is the best way to have them remove them? Should I go via yourself because I don't think that Amir will respond to me as we had a very big difference of opinion the last time I contacted him.

Regards Mike

Mike, please contact me via personal message with the details, I'll try to arrange that with Colnect.
Sorry, but this is pretty hypocritical. To fresh start isn't it worth paying off old debt to someone? https://en.numista.com/forum/topic58214.html
a fresh start ? Maybe first he will unblock my account ? He block it as i claim to remove my picture or add my copyrights. Reason for blocking ? a link in my profile to numista collection... Then he claim it was because i open a 2nd account. They block my account just because i demand to remove photo! I even go with theirs restoring account process. Provide all they want ( even my id scan ! ) One member contacted me and when i provided all information, he went silent and not responded till this day. Fresh start ? Sure, i would like to receive officially apology from the owner first. Then i think we can think about fresh start. [...]

I do believe that taking a fresh start and applying the principles above is better than the statu quo. Let's all do an effort, be respectful and ask again for removal of pictures if you are the author and you didn't give consent. Amir and I are discussing at the moment a new process to report such pictures. In the meantime, please contact me via personal message for such report, and I'll manage that with Colnect.
A written statement from both sides, which would enthrone their honest word?
I know I am a small and meaningless between numista and colnect. You want to know if Amir is trustworthy ? He should show if he respect people, users and numismatic community. Xavier, please ask Amir to activate my account back - he know about this case. Ask him please why he didnt activate my profile back even if i go theirs restoration process. I expect also an official apology from Amir. After this, i can move forward. Until this happen, my statement is like in the link below.

A laudable development. I support the idea of mutual respect and the attempts to start a constructive dialogue.
Hopefully bitter past experiences of some users shall not quell the founders' endeavour.

Cita: "doc_man"I think i give something to Numista community. Time will tell how this end. Right now I am considering several options including resignation from being a referee and closing my account.

Hey Damian, I understand you're angry and then you say things in the heat of the moment. You definitely deserve an apology from Amir and a unblockage of your Colnect account. But considering resignation from being a referee here and closing your account isn't smart and you'll regret it afterwards. Xavier (or Numista) isn't the bad guy, Amir is. Xavier is just trying to make the best of it. It's very difficult to undo everything what went wrong at Colnect. They've used some of my pictures too, but who knows how many? And I'm not going to check each picture to see if it could be mine. I don't even care if they use my pictures if they would have had the decency to just ask. I'm sure you also don't know how many of your pictures are used, so undo things is very difficult. But I completely agree with you, the first thing to do for Amir is to start with a proper and sincere apology.

If we gonna move on, an apology is mandatory from Amir, not only for me but for all numista members as its almost impossible to find how many pictures were harvested from us. Once again apologize for my words in previous message. […] Harvesting photo from numista is disrespect for our community […]

@Essor Prof time will tell how it will ends, people collect coins for thousands years before Numista,Colnect or uCoin and will collect after Numista,Colnect etc. I cant be part of Numista a wonderful and fantastic place to collect if will cooperate with person who disrespect other people and thinks his better then others.

Numista, a unique platform to learn, collect, swap and share about numismatics - Does this mission is above respect to each other ?

I send greetings and wishes for health.
It is difficult to accept reconciliation without redress. I do not believe in the concept of healthy competition.
But it's easy and straightforward.
This is in a statement:
,, We are willing to remove pictures accidentally added to our respective websites without the consent of the author of the pictures, upon request from the proven author; and to facilitate the process for such requests, even if there is no legal obligation to do so.,,

So the honesty and truth of the statement will be clarified very quickly and in a short time.
-Who submits a request to remove their photo that was stolen -however, with proof that the coin was or is in his possession, it should be claimed that removal should be completed.

I do not believe in this will and action in advance, I'm not affected and I don't even know what the server is doing, I don't go there , however, a short time will show the true face.
,,photos will not be deleted,,
only one interpol department in The Hague will help , a warning of a possible copyright infringement, however, would have to be a collective warning of the evidence.

and please don't ruin your health with stress yet.

why when using info and photo of anyone's coins can you add person who contributed towards the help of this photos or info for example I give information of coin of 1p Gibraltar that was not in the catalogue with concent of the person it's always nice to put for example information give and photo from kevin ..... this will increase the effort of people wanting to give photos and information becsuse simple reason that they get a gratitude for their work many people like their numista work to be reconditioned and honestly think a bit of history from persons will be in catalogue that is always nice ..just my opinion
How about this approach. Let it be open, let Numista users decide in which way they let let everyone use their or lets say Numista pictures. And users/authors could set copyrights to their own pictures as open, as long as the copied materiel is clearly linked (along with active link) to the original Numista page and username of the author.
This way Numista promotes its self even faster.
