At the moment the bimetallic aluminium bronze Silver middle 100 Peso coins are currently listed as Non-circulating but I’ve found evidence that shows that thought they are rare in circulation those can be picked up from banks even the Mexican mint persuaded everyone to collect the coins (particularly the 32 states series issued between 2003-2007) with a coin album that fits them (available completed from the mint or readily available from coin shops in Mexico)

Evidence below.

Your link shows that it's possible to buy mint SETS at the bank and that's your evidence these coins are circulating coins?

Yes you can buy them completed so the person doesn’t need to hunt for them or like I mentioned above you can buy the 32 coin album empty from most coin shops in Mexico. I would need to track a website (of a official bank coin shop) down that my parents bought some precious metal coins from them in the early 90s and only a couple of weeks ago they showed the site to see what they have in offer including coins from 1700-now and notes from the 1910-now. I was scrolling down and in the Nuevos Pesos to now section they had a couple of albums some empty some complete and they had the 32 coin set album which it had a description of it about them being in circulation.

Here is one they visited before the one I was taking about.

Yes, all this coins you comment in your post are really circulating conmemorative coins. I lived in Mexico in 2015 and you can find them in Bank Offices, they told me this coins were circulating conmemoratives but was too difficult to find them in circulation. 20 Pesos and 50 pesos coins was also difficult to find in circulation because people prefer to use banknotes of same value. 20 New Pesos, 50 New pesos and 100 Pesos all of them have silver in their composition, so people prefer to keep them than to use them.

Yes you can buy them completed so the person doesn’t need to hunt for them
Just so you know: Buyable coin ≠ Circulating coin
If you can "buy" them for face value Numista considers coins as circulating at least that's how it was for many years.

I might have misinterpreted there but what I meant is that it is available to buy Completed in the 32 coin set in the album (from the mint or most numismatic shops) or you can buy the album empty and fill it up with the 100 peso coins from circulation but off course most people hold on to them because of their silver content.

I lived about 2 years (in total) in Mexico. Commemorative 20 pesos sometimes appear in circulation: if you are VERY lucky, maybe once a month, you can get them from banks for the face value in circulated condition. But when you try to pay with them outside of the bank, no one accepts them. No one at all. I tried different places, including the Metro of Mexico City, and everyone says: "Go to a bank and change them for notes." As for the 100 pesos coins, you can´t find them in the banks now, but some numismatic shops offer them in circulated condition. They were "circulating" many years ago, at the beginning of the century, and this "circulation" was even more limited that the "circulation" of 20 pesos now. From banks to people´s hands and back to the banks.

I can suggest to create a new category: something between circulating and non-circulating coins. Maybe "almost non-circulating"?

Hi ciscoins

I lived in Mexico when I was a baby so I can’t remember much thanks for you explanation. I think that the 12 sided 20 peso coin might be more widely circulated (due to inflation) because it has more security features than the older ones.

I think that the 50 and 100 pesos had the same failure to the US dollar coins that’s why they are not widely circulated.

Hi

I'm new here, but I collect coins from like 8 years and Im mainly interested in late-circulating silver coinage. That is also why Im a huge fan of mexican coins. I have never been to Mexico, but for me it is obvious, that those 100-pesos coins has circulated. That is because it's hard to find them on ebay or mexican mercadolibre in UNC condition. Most of them are XF/VF.For me, It's no suprise that those coins were rare in circulation. In first edition there were struck 250k coins for every 31 states of Mexico, so that is total about 7,5 M coins for 110 M nation (back then in 2006). Those coins were rare in circulation, because mintage was pretty low. Only one in 14 citizen of Mexico could get this coin! Second edition was even more rare, with mintage of 150k coins for every state. Considering, that people rather prefere to keep their savings in real assets like silver rather than in paper money(Copernisus-Gresham Law), 100 pesos coins are suprisingly heavily circulated.

I agree with you Mexico (where I’m from) is one of the last places where they still mint circulating silver coins. The only time I’ve seen them for sale was one on Ebay US and a coin shop in one of the cities in Mexico which is part run by the mint and privately because on the site it has new coins and sets plus older coins such as colonial Spanish empire to foreign coins such as the Morgan dollar.

Like I said earlier maybe they have the same fate as the US dollar coins or were used for a while until people hoarded them all due to the silver content.

Finally from what I’ve seen someone had requested the vast majority of them to be changed to circulating commemorative which they have done so this topic is done for the moment.
