The first coins of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was introduced on 1 January 1973, when Nigeria became the very last British Commonwealth country to change over to decimal currency - 100 Kobo = 1 Naira.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria had banknotes denominated in Pounds & Shillings though.

Queen Elizabeth II's reign in Nigeria should be indicated as follows;
