Coin values on Numista

Pubblicazioni di 3 • visto 60 volte
I posted this question in another related thread, but it didn't appear to get noticed. So I'll try again with a dedicated thread.

I've noticed that the known values for coins listed in mintage tables are very outdated, and in many cases are now less than even the melt value of a coin. As someone wrote elsewhere, there's a non-transparent formula used to calculate those values, and if prices entered by users 10 years ago make it into the calculation, the values hold very little meaning.

Is there any chance of updating these, or changing how they're calculated to give a more accurate idea of how much a particular coin is worth?
I realize you are relatively new to Numista and my not know the history of the values shown on the coin pages. Here's a few threads worth reading explaining how they work, limitations, plans for improvements, etc. Some things of note: no input values are 10 years old as this feature only started in 2018, the formula for calculating these values is very transparent and explained in these threads, improvements such as adjusting for inflation are being considered.

Value calculation - the final algorithm?
Valuations are off and Numista should remove them

I'm sure there are many other posts about this topic. A good search term is "inflation."
Thanks!

I guess coins really went up in price in the past few years - I notice that I'm paying around twice the listed values on eBay right now.
Perhaps an easy adjustment to the algorithm would be to give higher weight to more recent entries than the older ones, considering the accelerating inflation and precious metal prices having gone up significantly in the past 4 years.

I am indeed very new to Numista, but am really enjoying this resource and would like to see it thrive.
