Greetings,

I was wondering if you could please make the continent of Antarctica show up on the coin map? Also once shown up if the British Antarctic Territories and French Antarctic and Southern Lands coins could be included on this new Antarctica in the coin map?

Thank you for your time and attention.

Antarctica is with no permanent human habitation.

However, there are still people there and in the future with new technology we may eventually be able to have permanent human habitants. Also there are always people in Antarctica just different people in rotating times.

Antarctica is a continent, not one country or several countries. I think we shouldn't include the moon either for the same reasons!

This may well be a moot subject if (when?) Antarctica becomes all underwater. I think permanent population is irrelevant when deciding to add territory to a map or not, as long as the territories do have the authority to issue coins. There is land there and permanent bases. Countries have claims (which appropriately are “frozen” by treaty, which also does not allow new claims). If it were not for the treaty, there would probably be recognized territories. Using the logic of permanent residents to keep an area on the map, one would have to consider deleting the British Indian Ocean Territory from the map, as the permanent residents were all deported, the majority of the population is American military or foreign contractors and the coinage is non-circulating and even has identical themes to that of the British Antarctic Territory. As for the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, the coinage is non-circulating but there are internationally recognized French claims to part of the territory (not all of it is covered by the Antarctic Treaty, “Adelie Land” is the Antarctic portion) although it has no permanent population other than scientists. If a country or territory is included in the Numista catalogue, I think it is appropriate to be on the map.

Yes, that sounds logical, and I can agree to that, but it's also following Numista's not always clear logic!

There is a technical issue which is antarctica does not represent well in the Equal earth projection we use, and would be very thin

With a Mercator projection it would take one third of the space…

unless we develop a google earth like map, it seems difficult to me

If Antarctica is thin on the map then so be it. I believe Antarctica should be on the map anyway possible.

Even if just the words “Antarctica not shown” could be added, I would agree with it and territories British Antarctic Territory and French Southern and Antarctic Lands could be indicated when Antarctica rolled over. Some dots could be added between Antarctica and Reunion to indicate the remaining islands of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands.

Also could they make a really thin Antarctica? Or they could make a really small Antarctica?
