Australian Decimal $2.00 and $1.00 (gold coloured) coins are, I believe, listed incorrectly as being made with Aluminium & Bronze.

I believe the correct metal description should be Copper, Aluminium & Nickel, or that is what is stated on the RAM site.

To be exact these coin are a mix of; 92% Copper – 6% Aluminium – 2% Nickel.

Bronze primarily contains 88% copper and 12% tin, sometime with minor amounts of other elements.

Please request this change by clicking on modify the page at the bottom of each of them :-)

Thanks for this comment. I have altered the main listing for the $1.00 coin. However with the $1.00 and $2.00 coins there there must be over 100 listed with the incorrect information and I do not have time to go through each one.

The issue is this will roll on with wrong information being listed as each new entry copies a page and the error.

Thought there might have been a way of bulk updating information.

I guess it comes down to how accurate users want the information.

Regards 😃

Aluminum bronze is a term for copper alloys in which aluminum replaces tin as the primary alloying element.  An alloy of 92% Copper – 6% Aluminum – 2% Nickel is one type of aluminum bronze.  The coin pages are not incorrect.

This is on one of the coin pages being questioned and is from the RAM:

Adding the exact composition is a good thing but even without the exact composition the pages are accurate as they are and contain no wrong information.

They are widely known in Australia as Aluminium-bronze and I won't be changing them.

Of course.  I meant adding the composition like what was done here:

That further breakdown of the composition of the metal has been placed in the “Additional details” box. I don't have an issue with that at all. But it would be a massive job to update them all individually.

Maybe it could be a job for the Numista Robot?

Mike,

Thanks for your reasoning. While the $1.00 coin may in fact be Aluminium Bronze, the RAM does not refer to them in that way.

Interestingly the RENNICKS guide refers to the $1.00 coins as Aluminium Bronze and perhaps this is where the popular nomenclature you refer to stems from.

As a further point of interest RENNIKS refers to $2.00 coins as being Cupro Nickel, Aluminium and Nickel and not Aluminium Bronze. I assume that they are wrong.

I agree with you that, for brevity, Aluminium Bronze is a reasonably accurate shorthand description of the composition and agree that it would be good for clarity to have the full metal breakdown listed in “additional details”.

Thank you for taking the time to address my comments, much appreciated.

PS hope the Numista Robot can achieve the change.

The Numista Robot was activated and was able to make the change.  🤖

One & two dollar coins were picked up as were some 50 cent and $5 coins.

If any are missing please let me know. Special thanks to Jarcek for making it possible. 🤩

Cheers Mike
