Patani Sultanate was a Malay sultanate which territory spanned approximately the area of the modern Thai provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and part of the northern modern-day Malaysian state of Kelantan. While most part of its former territory are within modern Thailand, it is perhaps not inaccurate to say the realm had closer tie to Malay states thus it should be sorted under Islamic states of Malaysia.
