This is not important and seems like an issue related to the translation of the series, but I think it could be useful for anyone who want to add or modify information in series.
⚠️ When I mention a translator here, they may be a Numista translator, or a user requesting to add a translation of an English text to Numista.
In the current situation:
- The series has one field where write a description. We can write here information about the theme of the series and about the content (the characteristics of its objects).
- For example, I created some series related with the Chinese zodiac:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9738
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9736
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9740
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9578
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9591
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=2603
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9640
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9735
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9734
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=3040
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9571
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=9566
I wrote two paragraph in all cases:- the first one about the theme (always has the same or very similar text)
- the next about the objects in the series (quantity, type, denominations, issuer, issuing entity, mint, common design…).
- For example, I created some series related with the Chinese zodiac:
- A series with any text in its description is seeing as complete by the system, the Numista translators, and the Numista team. The series could has only information about the theme, only about the content, or both information; in the three cases it is seen as complete. And no one looks for more information to add.
- If an user find a series with only one type of information, for example the theme, and requests add data in English about the content, the other languages will not have the new data. The text (the theme) in other languages must be deleted to be detected by translators. And then the translators must translate again all the description (the theme, already translated but deleted, and the content).
The same in the case of add information about the theme in a series with data only about the content.
To have two independent fields (theme and content) allow:
- The system, the Numista translators, and the Numista team see that the series has data about theme, content or both. If later is added an advanced search for series, all users could know this.
- If an user find a series with only one type of information, for example the theme, and requests add data in English about the content, the information about the theme does not need be deleted in other languages. The translators will find the new text in the theme field.
The same in the case of add information about the theme in a series with data only about the content. - Create a new series with only information about the theme, and add the information about the content when we have more sources.
- Copy the information about the theme (and their translations) to other series with the same theme, and add the information about the content when we have more sources.
