Hi there fellow coin-lovers,

A nice thing about the X-mass holiday is that we have some time to spend with our coins.  I took a better  look at this Nassau ¼ Kreuzer 1819 L(km41)  which has a reverse which has only be described for the 1819Z (km42). Is this a known type of mule and if so has it ever been sold in auction? I'm sure there is some member who has info on this coin.

Hi,

Do you mind giving us the two numista links?

Thank you

Sure, it's about these 2 Duchy of Nassau coins:

km41 : N#16050

km42: N#4143

Does your coin match the KM 41 variant  “var_3: A/ HERZ: NASS: SCH: MÜNZ R/ =ZER 1819 L”

There are also variants of KM 42 with or without the dot after “ZER”

Maybe I'm missing something obvious but to me both sides of your coin looks like the KM#41.

Okay, I get it. All the KM41 have the “L” maker mark and all the KM42s have the “Z” mark.

And yours has the “L” so it's KM41.

But it has the “HERZ • NASS : SCH : MÜNZ” text that is mostly on KM42s.

I think the KM41 variant var_3: A explains your coin.

Yes var_3: A/ HERZ: NASS: SCH: MÜNZ R/ =ZER 1819 L  The crown is definitely the KM#41. The reverse is KM#41 also.

OK, thanks fellow collectors, I thought that all those km41 had Nassauische written in full, but apperently they can also have the abrieviated version that km42 shows.

We can then close this case, it is a known variant of km41.

PS: my daughter suggested to ask chat-gpt and I did and showed it the pictures with the question whether it was a mule, it said it was indeed so and coming with right info on km numbers etc. So at first I was inpressed, but still had my doubts, so I put in this question, trusting our community more than chat-gpt. And so we can confirm this is a much better place to look for the right info! Numista 1-0 Chat-gpt

I didn’t contribute to the answering of this question in the end, mostly because when I was writing my reply (before anyone else had replied) I was totally confused about your question, and thought you needed to point out why and what you saw and where, but after reading my answer for more information back, I thought it could have been interpreted the wrong way - so I backed out posting it, and just followed from the side lines. By which point I understood and the answer was presented by others.

However I must jump in now and comment on AI, it means Artificial Incompetence not Intelligence, that is Incompetence on the part of the public who have been rolled up in the notion (by big tech who profit from such shit) that it can somehow give correct information 100% of the time, it can not, and what is worse it regurgitates false information on an incomprehensible regular basis. I will never be incompetent to the laziness of trusting AI, and nor should anyone else. In journalism there is one of the basic notions to check, check and check again, from name spelling to facts and quotes, because if you get it wrong you are to blame, and only you. Big tech have somehow conveniently distanced themselves from being accountable, a faceless entity handing out shit sandwiches.

I am glad you trust us more than chat-tfd, the digital world at the moment isn’t to be trusted. I remember my parents teaching me not to „believe everything you read in the papers.“

Anyway I am glad others worked out the answer, because it was a bit of a head scratcher and I have one or two of each coin - so it was interesting to me also.

„If your reply or post in the Forum stinks of AI, I will call you out! Knowledge comes from experience, the I in AI stands for incompetence.“

AI without HI is dangerous.

Actually AI used in some fields is tremendously useful.  Used in Medical research it can help design critical experiments in a fraction of the time it took even with high speed computers. But, without the Human Inelegance part of the equation there's little benefit.  The mass appeal commercial part of AI (ChatGPT, etc.) should be used the same way. Let the results lead you along a path but definitely should not be believed without verifying with other sources.

I totally agree, and I would never have considered using chat-pgt myself (never use it myself), but for the next generation it apears to be the natural thing to do, so I tried it. As I said at first I was inpressed with the result, not so much now, so it was an interesting experience and I thought it might be usefull to share.
