North Borneo vs. British North Borneo

I think that the country North Borneo should be changed to British North Borneo. This is so it matches the catalog. Curious to know what others think.

There's a couple of those around.  French Guiana is listed as "French Guiana" but "British Guiana" is listed as "Guyana"

It took me a while to track down because when you have a coin that has "British Guiana" engraved on it, you expect to find it listed under "British Guiana"

Ya I think that British Guiana should be separated as well. But one battle at a time.

Tis a nightmare at times for things like this but I learn how to live with it lol

Then again I must admit the boundary of present day Guyana must be the same as British Guiana because Krause has it listed as Guyana too !

What is the definition of country for Numista or Krause's World Coin catalogs?

I cannot find it and this definition is the core of this site. It's the first card of this house of cards that Numista is and we don't know what it is.

Well I once separated Portuguese Timor from East Timor.

I think it should be renamed British North Borneo because that was the official name of the colony.

...and as a reminder, because it was a protectorate, the names of the monarchs should not go in the page titles.

What about the East Africa protectorate 1 pice though ? Had Queen Vic on it. If that's the case we need British Guiana and Essequibo and Demerary. As well as the work on SA you're gunna be a busy boy Kenneth.

Don't rush me Mark. During the summer I'll find time to work on SA.

There is nothing I can do currently to change country names. However, I (and everyone else) have the power to make a new country in the country list.

It's the change over of coins though, I would hate to make a country now and have no coins in it would rather have wait until you can do it

I always thought that South Vietnam should be a separate country on the country list, but it was rejected (although all my Vietnamese friends would agree with me- they don't want to be called socialist Vietnamese).

So there's a 100% chance I might make country name changes.

I don't have control of changing the map, but I don't think South Sudan has even made any official coins yet.

North Borneo! It highlights Indonesia, which is made up of all those other islands around there, and the southern half of Borneo.

I understand that serious collectors do want to have correct information - especially presented in a way
that they are used to. and best within the next minute.

keep in mind: people here do their work in their spare time. no one gets paid. some even have a
private life besides Numista, work to do, studies to finish or kids to raise. whatever.
please be patient. Xavier will adress these problems if he gets the time for them.
while team members are busy trying to help out.

I am very sorry to argue, but - even if I am isolated - I have to.
As pointed in various posts, Andree, while team members are volunteers, Xavier makes serious money from this site by Google and eBay, just to name a few.
This income creates him some responsibility of at least being RESPONSIVE to the community that generates that money for HIM.
So, please, do not get offended, the anger or disappointment is not at you or the team, on the contrary, we do respect the fact that you stand still.
It is at the owner of this site where - we do require some more responsibility for action.

Hey, this thread was a discussion on what people believed the country boundaries should be, especially when you consider the first post stated "Curious to know what others think" as far as I could see, nobody was badgering the team members to make the changes right away. So to come in with the phrase "Some of us even have a private life besides Numista" is a little condescending.  

We all know and respect that the team membership is a voluntary thing. It didn't really need to pointed out, especially using the words that were used, perhaps it was unintentional, but it still came across as a bit condescending to me.

The thing is, these guys want to do their best, however they do not have the means to do so. It must be f...cking frustrating, I know by now.
So, please, I request you to encourage them rather than discourage. I have learnt over time, where Numista s...cks.

Well going back to the original question, maybe we should make a list so that when changes are made, we have a list ready?

South Vietnam & Vietnam
North Borneo -> British North Borneo

Am I missing something?

I did not want to upset anyone here. Rather reminding to be a little more patient if changes do not
happen so fast or discussions take a long time.
