Luxembourg #35, 1 Franc

Pubblicazioni di 6
Hi all,

The catalog (and Krause and every other source I could find) says the Luxembourg 1 Franc coin is nickel, but I have one from 1924 that is magnetic!
How can it be magnetic if it's made of nickel? I bought it at a coin fair for only 70 cents or so, so a counterfeit would be unlogical.
Nickel is magnetic!
What? I always assumed it wasn't because copper-nickel coins aren't magnetic at all. How could I have not known that after 20 years of coin collecting  x.
The copper in the cupronickel coins stops the coin from being magnetic. Nickel on its own is ferromagnetic.
everyday a little wiser. Thanks mate!
You are welcome.
