In French it's Sarre, not Saar.
But I agree... It should be Saarland not Saar, even if in English the currency is called Saar Franc, we also say Saudi Riyal but the country is Saudi Arabia...
I'm not orange and also in other things I'm not a Donald at all. DonChori like Don Felipe or Doña María, por favor.
Cita: BMPJI have no problem with the Saar - Franc but with the country name only. Even above you refer to the creation of Saarland.
From the link: "1920–1935 as the Territory of the Saar Basin; and 1947–1957 as the Saar Protectorate and 1957–1959 as the state of Saarland in West Germany."
So "Saar" - 25 years.
"Saarland" - 2 years.
Guess it makes sense to name it that then.
That being said, it sounds horrible. "Saar" sounds like some random forgotten Boer republic of lizard people. "Saarland" at least makes me think of Germany.
I would have tended to say Saarland or at least Saar-Region but even the Germans in 1935 called it Saar but that will always be only the shorthand form (or colloquial) of Saar-Region, -Protectoracte or -land.

Yes, because Saarland has been the name of it since it rejoined Germany in 1957. (and from 1935-1945 too when it was part of Germany) The Saar franc however was the currency of the "Saar protectorate" and was still in use until the D-Mark was introduced, just like the Netherlands Antilles guilder is still in use on TIFKANA (the islands formerly ...).
But I see they wrote "Saarland" on the coins anyway , so ??? https://en.numista.com/catalogue/sarre-1.html
