Please can anyone explain why this coin (Token?) is listed as Exonumia whilst the rest of the Burkina Faso coins are shown as coins under this country? Surely they are either all coins or all Exonumia?
I once read that previous coins for Burkina Faso were privately minted without consent of the government of BF. Most likely they were not aware or didn't care about anybody creating coins with Burkina Faso on them.
In more recent years however, the government of BF had issued (sold) certain rights to strike coins specifically with BF as issuer on them. I think a german company bought these rights and only those coins are sort of legale tender in BF.
The term legal tender is probably not correct because they use the BEAC Franc as mentioned... But you get the general idea... now that the government can sell these 'rights', they also acknowledge or at least give some legal framework for those coins.
I just did a search for 'burkina faso 2017' and that brings up a list of several coins that were 'officially' minted, apparently by a company 'MCI Mint'.
