Andrew Michael Burnett (born 1952) is a British numismatist and museum curator specializing in Roman coinage. He served as Keeper of the Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum from 1992 to 2003 and as Deputy Director of the museum from 2003 until his retirement in 2013. Since then, he has been an honorary professor at University College London.
Burnett began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Arts in Literae Humaniores from Balliol College, Oxford, and later earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of London. Joining the British Museum in 1974 as a research assistant, he quickly established himself as a leading authority in numismatics, contributing extensively to the study and cataloging of Roman coinage. His notable works include Coinage in the Roman World (1987) and Coins (1991).
Throughout his career, Burnett held key roles in numismatic societies. He was President of the Royal Numismatic Society (2013–2018), President of The Roman Society (2008–2012), and President of the International Numismatic Commission (1997–2003). In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2012 for his services to the British Museum and numismatics.
