Issuing authority Cologne or Köln [Risolto]

Pubblicazioni di 4 • visto 57 volte
Hi

I am not trying to be the smartest person in the room here, but I would kindly ask someone to explain why is German Notgeld Issuing authority displayed as "City of Cologne" and not "City of Köln" or rather just "Köln" only? What is the reason for using English version of names? Same goes for Munich (München)...

Going along English names of certain German cities, I guess also similar as this one should be changed: "Brühl bei Köln"

Thank you
Hello,

For consistency, all issuer names should be in English and French on the English and French versions of the website respectively.

So we have Cologne and Munich for the same reason we have Finland and not Suomi, Turkey and not Türkiye, Germany not Deutschland, Rome not Roma and so on.

That being said, we do have some issuers that need translation, like Firenze.

OK, please close this thread.
English names are more internationally well-known for German cities.

Cologne, Munich, & Nuremburg are 3 such cities where this is the case.
