I propose that "Republic of China" (1911-date) be added as a ruling authority for "China - Republic" and "Taiwan".

"Central Bank of China" (1924-date) should also be added as an issuing entity for both.

I proposed a longer (but still far from complete) list of issuing entities some time ago

but nothing has been implemented yet.

For ruling authorities, I would prefer to see:

China - Republic of:
  • Republic
  • République
  • 1912-1949
  • Period

Taiwan:
  • Republic of China
  • République de Chine
  • 1949-date?
  • 1949-présent?
  • Period

The Republic was proclaimed on Januray 1, 1912, so I think that date would be a better start, and there would have to split at 1949 considering the different issuers (before becoming its own Republic, Taiwan would have just been a province). Ruling authorities can be connected though, so... that could work here. :)
Agree with you on 1912 being the starting date for the Republic.

Do ruling authorities have country-specific dates? Republican rule on Taiwan effectively began in 1945, and banknotes were issued under authority of the Republic as early as 1946.

I think this would be a good format:
  • Country: China - Republic of
  • Period: Republic/République (1912-1949)

  • Country: Taiwan
  • Period: Republic of China/République de Chine (1945-date/1945-présent)

The Republic of China on Taiwan began in 1949.

Between 1945 & 1949, Taiwan was a Province of the Republic of China.

Aidan.
Well Aidan, if you subscribe to the province theory, then we could have
  • Country: Taiwan, Province
  • Period: Republic of China/République de Chine (1945-2018/1945-2018)

along with
  • Country: Fujian, Province
  • Period: Republic of China/République de Chine (1912-2018/1912-2018)
including Kinmen (Quemoy) and Lienchiang (Matsu)

Between 1895 & 1945, Taiwan was part of the Empire of Japan.

Taiwan then became a Province of the Republic of China.

Since 1949, Taiwan has been governed by an independently minded entity - the Republic of China on Taiwan.

Aidan.
"Independently minded" is a progressive view that did not take hold immediately in 1949.

I propose keeping "Taiwan" as banner name with addition of the following subcategory options:
  • Issuing authority (Country): Taiwan - Japanese Empire
  • Ruling authority (Period): Empire of Japan (1895-1945)
  • Issuing entity (Issuing entity/Issuing bank): Government General; The Bank of Taiwan Limited;
  • Currency: Taiwanese Yen (1895-1945)

  • Issuing authority (Country): Taiwan - Republic of China
  • Ruling authority (Period): Republic of China (1945-present)
  • Issuing entity (Issuing bank): Bank of Taiwan; Central Bank of China
  • Currency: Old Taiwanese dollar (1946-1949); New Taiwanese dollar (1949-date)

Republic of China sub-sections:
  • Issuing authority (Country): Dachen (Chekiang province, Republic of China)
  • Ruling authority (Period): Republic of China (1912-1955)
  • Issuing entity (Issuing bank): Bank of Taiwan
  • Currency: New Taiwanese dollar (1949-date)

  • Issuing authority (Country): Kinmen (Fukien province, Republic of China)
  • Ruling authority (Period): Republic of China (1912-present)
  • Issuing entity (Issuing bank): Bank of Taiwan
  • Currency: New Taiwanese dollar (1949-date)

  • Issuing authority (Country): Matsu (Fukien province, Republic of China)
  • Ruling authority (Period): Republic of China (1912-present)
  • Issuing entity (Issuing bank): Bank of Taiwan
  • Currency: New Taiwanese dollar (1949-date)

The Republic of Formosa (1895-1895) should also be added, with Tainan as sub-section.
Currency would be Tainan Official Silver Note denominated in Yuan (員)

Those notes are denominated in Wen or Cash - the Chinese version of 'Cent' rather than 'Yuan' (or 'Chinese Dollar).

Aidan.
The Tainan notes (bonds?) clearly state big yuan (大員)

We also need Weihaiwei - under British Administration ( 1898 - 1930) added.

Here is proof;

A catalogue of Weihaiwei's notes has now been published.

Issuers:
Bank of Communications (1914-1927)
Bank of China (1918)
National Industrial Bank of China (1924)

Ruling authority:
China - Republic (1911-1949)

The Canton Municipal Bank (1933)

The Republic of China was declared in 1912, not 1911.

Weihaiwei under British administration needs to be in a separate section, just like for Hong Kong & Macao.

Aidan.
Hey. Any news on this, a ruling authority to Taiwan and ROC?

Or just for Taiwan, as I've also raised the question before, here, just about Taiwan, in the coin-section of the forum:

Bumping this up, thanks :)
