Upper Bank Canadian Province 1 Penny resource [Risolto]

Pubblicazioni di 7 • visto 119 volte
Hello
Im trying to research a Canadian 1 Penny Token from 1857, problem is Numista does not have the one I have. It is eight sided and weighs 14.72 grams. flat to flat is 32mm diameter, flat to point is 33.2
Ive been looking for quite a while, but can find nothing like this, does anyone know of a decent reference? or person with substantial knowledge on these type tokens?

I also wonder if the last digit is a "3" but then my search's turned to nothing.

Someone has altered it. Some parts of the eight rims are thicker than others.

The reverse, for example, with different rim thickness ...

whereas if a token like that was mint-made the rims would all be the same. :)

I was starting to think so too, I guess this should go under COIN ID topic. At first I was wanting a reference,
but now I know it is junk. NO id required.

I though still have an issue with the weight, it is only 14.72, not matching any weight in the above reference.
I suppose in the altering process, the edges rolled up some, and then they were shaved down. Just a guess for the weight loss, it looks very worn too. Was an interesting piece anyway, was in a junk bin for 5 cents.

There are no 8-sided tokens from Upper Canada: https://www.coinsandcanada.com/tokens-medals-banks.php

I saw this thread once "solved", but just now I'm seeing this eBay item (via picclick):

1837 Lower Canada KM# Tn11 2 Sous

It looks like there was a need for a copper octagonal part in some machine or device. It would be interesting to know what it was.

We see large coppers reused in all kinds of ways: holed in the center to be used as washers, with two holes as buttons, with edge "dented" to be used as gears or pie crimpers, etc.
