There are some inaccuracies in the coin prices, for example the same coin of the same date and mint mark can sometimes be labelled as more expensive at a lower grade, and in some cases the circulating version of the coin is listed as more expensive than the proof version of the same coin. But despite this, are the numista values an overall good reference for coin values? And if so, how accurate are they usually?
They are based off previous sales from sites such as eBay, which are matched by volunteers, and can have multiple inconsistencies. This can be caused by things such as inconsistent grading, a coin being sold for less than market value, or sometimes even a coin being incorrectly identified. However, they are meant to serve as a guide - not a definitive price list. If you are dissatisfied with the prices given, then you can always look at previously sold listings on eBay yourself, or even buy a catalog (though they can sometimes be a bit off since prices fluctuate as and after the catalog is released).
