Bahamas : Question - knowing the difference between matte, proof & special uncirculated [Risolto]

Hello,

Please forgive me for my ignorance, but after consulting Numista's link https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces9352.html (for the 25 cent piece, for example), I am unable to judge which of the three 1976 options my pieces are: matte, proof or SU.

After reading other posts on the subject on Numista, I would lean towards proof, since the edges are very crisp and the effect is indeed mirror-like, but I wonder why they would be floating around loose (probably, someone broke up a set, to sell the silver 50 cent, 2$ and 5$ separately).

Anyone available to educated me on this? Does matte refer to the coin's whole surface, or just a part (technically, the accents on the above coins are matte...) Confused...

The 1, 5, 10 and 25 coins are without any doubt proof coins. They all have mirror like fields and frosted features.
The 15 cent is difficult to say on this pictures, I think that one is a Special Uncirculated. But when you have it in your hand you must see the difference. These matte coins are matte all over, fields as well as features, and no frosting at all. Mintages of matte coins are always very low for Franklin Mint coins, so you don't see them that often. I have a few, I'll try to make a picture, but again, it's difficult to see it on a picture, but when you have one you'll see the difference immediately. That's why I think your 15 cents is not a matte. What's the date on your 15 cents?

I find these lower denominations Franklin Mint coins regularly in bargain bins. I guess, like you said, the sets are broken to sell the silver higher denominations separately.

Thanks for the information. Yes, the 15-cent piece is just like the others (mirror-like field). It's just the photo angle that masked that effect.
They are all 1976.
