Ireland became a republic on 18 April 1949, not on 29 December 1937!

29 December 1937 was when the Constitution of Ireland replaced the Constitution of the Irish Free State - & remained a Dominion within the British Commonwealth, as King George VI was Ireland's head of state as King of Ireland.

Please change the date to 'Republic - since 1949'.

This is discussed here, and it is clearly a controversial topic, with not much support:

Doesn't change the fact that Ireland became a republic on 18 April 1949!

Using 'Republic (since 1937)' IS totally wrong!

Using 'Republic (since 1949) is totally correct to reflect Ireland's constitutional status since 18 April 1949.

"It had the status of Dominion until 1937 when a new constitution was adopted, in which the state was named "Ireland" and effectively became a republic, with an elected non-executive president as head of state."
I personally don't care to much just a titbit from wiki maybe that's way it is as it is now?
But it seems to be relatively mushy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Ireland#Head_of_state

Both of these mention about Ireland becoming a republic on 18 April 1949, NOT 29 December 1937!
