I often receive questions about changes in the catalog. I usually inform the referees who are directly affected, but that's not always possible. I will try to keep a log of all the changes in this thread for everyone's reference so that all improvements are transparent. Comments more than welcome.

A very good point, but this is something only Xavier can fix. I would even say these links in brackets are not necessary at all.

Sri Lanka and Ceylon merged. Currencies and rulers merged as well.
Wonderful. All the hard work done to ensure that the banknotes from these two were properly separated ruined in one stroke. Only, of course, we now have the absurd situation of "Rupee (1871-1972)" and "Rupee (1972-)" without any indication as to why there exists a split. Is there an undo button? If so, please press it now and reverse this nonsense.

Your optimism is thoroughly misplaced since this fails to show the change in the name of the country. It's also wrong because it ignores the fact that Sri Lanka was a Republic between 1972 and 1978 before it became a Democratic Socialist Republic. Perhaps if you had consulted with members before this change was implemented, this error at least could have been avoided.
A country's name and its ruling authority are not the same thing and should not be being mixed up like this.

Honestly, I think this new combination will do wonders for the banknotes section.
Because there is no referee for Ceylon/Sri Lanka, I have been dealing with a lot of requests for that issuer, and a very common type of request I come across is to add dates to Ceylon pages that actually exist as separate pages under Sri Lanka (or sometimes vise versa). The difference is not obvious--being only in the Sinhalese text--and because of that, I have had to reject many requests and explain the differences many times. With all banknotes now being under the same issuer, I imagine this could actually clear up some of that confusion.
We might need to combine the two currencies, but that would not be much of a problem to request.
We might also need a "Republic" period under Sri Lanka, but I do not really see that as an issue regarding this merger--because stratocaster merged these places, I would assume this "Republic" period did not actually exist before the merger. While we would still potentially need a "Republic" period added, that should be easy enough to request.
The chief problem is that there is now no indication which notes are from Ceylon and which are from Sri Lanka. The confusion you speak of is real but this will do nothing to remove it, since that distinction has been deleted. This will be even more apparent when the currencies are merged, as very similar notes will be adjacent to one another when sorted by face value (which really means currency). I would happily have volunteered to referee this section if asked (having spent time creating many notes in both Ceylon and Sri Lanka and ensuring the right notes went in the right country) but I won't be associated with the current mess. The only viable solution in this current set up is to label every note with the name of the country that issued it in the title to replace the information that has been deleted. Since I didn't do the deleting, I see no reason why I should do all that work.
Merging country name with ruling authority, especially when it's done as badly as this, is a bad idea. I ask again, please press the undo button and rethink this whole process before it's too late.

I didn't change the ruling authorities at all. Whatever was there before is still there now.

All database changes are discussed with all the catalogue admins before they are implemented. Additionally, this was requested on the forum here: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic94917.html
I don't normally keep track in this thread of requests that are documented in other threads. I just made the update here by mistake.

I am not sure what you are referring to. The rulers and the country names are in different databases.
A name change doesn't make it a different country. It's the same country, same people, same land, no discontinuity, just with a different name.
I agree the name change could be displayed more prominently, but I can't help with this. Best thing is to open a ticket for the improvement of the catalogue.

You could have helped this by not merging two country names into one. We now have coins and notes issued by Ceylon displayed as if they were issued by Sri Lanka. What we had before worked. This new arrangement is clearly wrong and the only option to correct the mistake is to undo the merger.

Hi Stratocaster, I think I have 2 more issuers than the last time I saw my coins, is it possible that some changes has been done?
Thanks in advance for the info.
Coin referee for: Andorra, Equatorial Guinea, Marshall Islands, Moldova, Liberia and Spain
Banknote referee for: Andorra, Equatorial Guinea and Spain
The 21st my issuer count went +1 but I didn't add any new coins to my collection so it must have been a change in the catalog.
Anybody know which issuer this might be?
Or perhaps tips how I can figure this out for myself?
Thanks in advance…
Check the “My coins” section and, at the bottom of the page, click the link “See recent collection changes”.
There you should be able to track the various changes and updates to your collection. By default it shows last 7 days but you can select date range as you want (back up to May 2018 when the log was implemented).
This section has been a bit improved lately and when updates are made by admins (resulting of pages merged, database updates, etc.), a note is now indicating “This change was executed by a catalogue administrator.”.
A couple improvements may also be implemented later to improve this log.

Thank you very much pejounet, this was a great help…
I found several coins in that list that were not added or changed by me. These were indeed coins that had been updated by a catalog administrator! Unfortunately the most recent change was from july 5th while my issuer count went from 326 to 327 on the 21st, so no luck, but I'm getting closer!
When I opened Numista this morning my country count was +1. I am unable to track which country was added, the ‘my coins’ section and recent changes was no help either… nothing seemed changed…
My collection starts from about 1750, so no roman provinces. Notgeld I only have 5 pieces and they seem to be in the same place as always…
As great as Numista is, this is my one point of criticism… When something changes it is too difficult for a user to find what was changed!
I have always kept track of my collection in an excel-type document and as Numista came into the picture I tried to mirror my document with the info here. However, I have stopped trying some time ago because it's too difficult to track the changes. Over time my issuers, countries and even individual coin count slowly moved away from the numbers I see in the ‘my coins’ section.
And that's even without mentioning the shuffling that happens between ‘Standard circulation’, ‘Circulating commemorative’ and ‘non-circulating’ sections. I can live with these changes and accept why they happen!
Anyhow, Numista remains a fantastic resource and I can name a thousand things that I like about it. So I hope nobody takes this small point of criticism personal!
