I wanted to change a username myself, and see this request a lot on the Numista forum. A lot of people just registered with "unappealing" names to test out this website, but then got "sucked in" and spend a lot of time here, reading, swapping, communicating. And we believe that changing the username should be an option.
I agree that maybe it should not be that easy to do, and probably needed permission from Numista Team, but I believe it should be possible. I hope enough members will support this request and it will be implemented.
I think their should be a setting to change the name even if the old name stays as a back up so people see nothing to hide or open a setting were they can be list of previes changes of names .the reason i want to change is becsuse dont want my birth name which I added when first opened the account. now I want to call my self in numista
Hi
Not being an expert for computer sciences, but still - this is wrong and should be rejected. I guess there are many code issues regarding implementation of such change as well as loosing traceability to users who just want to hide away from their history on Numista. No one is perfect, so if someone had chosen an un-perfect username, just live with it, "so what". Its the core stuff why we are all that matters, not some string of letters.

So you reckon it's better that they delete their account and start a new one?
To change one's username is not "hide away from their history", it's just changing the name. Eveeything in the profile will still be the same.
I think we should be able to change the name but profile stays the same the comments of previous swaps stays the same all the records stay same only thing is change the name why not . everyone has the wrights to have the name they chose . nothing to be hidden as every thing is still their if bad feedback it will stay if good like on my profile it will stay. I have not for no bad feedback so why cant I change
I clearly do not understand why there are so many people opposing it. I can understand it to be a problem from a technical perspective, but so many platforms allow the username change, I believe it is possible.
From a security/reliability perspective? The whole account with all the reviews will stay there, no one will escape erasing negative feedbacks. People who would like to scam simply create new accounts, not changing the usernames.

I totally agree. If one want to chanhe the username, why shouldn't they? All posts in the forum will still be there, but the author's nane will be changed. Everything written and swapped by ngdawa will now be done by naughtyboy_007. What's the problem (except for the technical issues)?
What I concerned about is that I may have exchanged messages with "ngdawa" (for example) and made some swaps with "ngdawa". When I log in the next day and I check my inbox or my list of past swaps, I see an unknown person called "naughtyboy_007", who I'm sure I never talked to. I also want to check again the content of my swap with "ngdawa", but I can't find it anymore. This can be very confusing.
I don't want to change the subject, but there are truly bigger and better things to upgrade around here. I just do not place much value on persons user name...

Agree, Xavier. But this is a temporary inconvenience that influence only pending swaps, which is not that many for each member at any given moment.
Very often people look at the avatar of a person, and remember its color or image, when people change avatars it can throw off people for a moment, but then you understand who is who.
I am sure it can be solved by sending a message to pending swaps and be explained.
