Help identifying possible 1699 Augsburg 1 Heller variant [Risolto]

Pubblicazioni di 3 • visto 62 volte
Hello,

Here is a coin that is very similar to the Germany Augsburg 1 Heller KM A23

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces45922.html

The reverse cross and quatrefoil are different.
Edge design different as well

Details:
Date 1699
Copper
side to side 11.5mm (KM A 23 is listed as 10mm)
corner to corner 14mm
Weight less than .1gr

I purchased a very large collection of coins and it was in that batch

Is this a possible variant of that coin?

I appreciate any and all assistance.
Thank you
Randy
Many of the coins from that era have many varieties. I don't think the producers considered the various issues to be "types" in the sense as modern coin designers.

That particular "type" was issued over nine decades with dies made by who knows how many engravers. I have four coins in my collection that I label as KM# A23 (and Schön DM# 1 / # 3) because that is a useful label, but if we used the standards for modern types none of them would be considered the same type as the picture shown in the Numista entry for KM# A23.

The SCWC 1601 has no image for the type. The SCWC 1701 and the SC German Coins have an incorrect picture. Schön DM has two types covering part of the range of KM# A23 and the two images (in the 5th edition) don't fully match the image in Numista.

Yes, you have a variant of the type. But the image in Numista should also be considered a variant and not an exemplar for the type.
Thank you very much for your response!
