Pubblicazioni di 4 • visto 138 volte
Hi, does someone know what are the differences between the two coins listed by Krause?
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3755.html

Following the text it seems the difference is the weight: 6,9 gr for KM8b and 7,1 for KM8b.1...but
i have a coins from 2003 that should be 7,1 grams and it weights 6,9 instead.

Do you know something more? Thanks
As far as I can see, it's the weight, but even without the weight, it's in the year. No overlapping of types in the same year.

Hello!

I will try to help you understand it.

First, the description at Numista and Krause are incorrect, in my opinion. The "official" sources, however, give mixed information. Under official sources I mean the following information:
1. If you look at the official annual set of coins by the National Bank of Ukraine in 2001, it states that the weight is 7.1 g.

2. Starting from 2006 sets it gives the weight as 6.8 g.

Keep in mind, that the sets were issued in 1996, 2001, 2006, 2008... . But in 1996 there was no weight description provided. Even though 2001-2003 are different in design from 2004+, the composition and dimensions are the same.

3. The main catalog of Ukrainian coins' types http://www.coinsitk.com/download/books/itk8.pdf at page 9 mentions that:
"In sets of 2001 the weight was shown as 7.1 g
In sets starting from 2006 the weight is shown as 6.8 g"

4. In addition, if you visit the website of the National Bank of Ukraine, you can see that it states 7.1 g for all the years 1995-2015.
https://bank.gov.ua/en/uah/obig-coin/1-grivnya-zrazka-2018-roku

BUT if you look at the same page but in Ukrainian, it says 7.1 g and in the description below it says 6.8 g for the coins starting from 2001.
https://bank.gov.ua/ua/uah/obig-coin/1-grivnya-zrazka-2018-roku

5. To give even more inconsistency, Ukrainian Wikipedia, says that 1995-96 is 7.1 g, 2001-2003 is 6.9 g, 2004+ - 6.8 g.

So, you can choose yourself what source you trust more, National Bank of Ukraine, Numista, Krause, Wikipedia, your scale...

In my personal opinion, the coins made of brass (1995-96) are 7.1 g, 2001+ are 6.9 g on the paper. In reality, they fluctuate at 6.8-7.0 g for after 2001, and around 6.9-7.1 g for 1995-96. And there should not be a distinction between 2001, 2002 or 2003.

I hope that helps,
Yurii
Thank you for your help. To make the things more "clear", i can say i have the 2001 also, and it is 6,9 g too.
