I had a question about a particular token in the catalog earlier today. I posted on here asking about it, but it occured to me, that it would be really useful if there was the option to specify one or more numista coins (or banknotes / exonumia) in a post and have it automatically tag people who had created or edited those entries. They might have more information about the piece, or be able to answer the specific question. Especially if the questions is "Why is this attributed to X when the information I have found indicates it possibly should be attributed to Y".

There might be times where a post mentioning a particular coin does not need to tag the original author / editors, so I could see it behing a checkbox or something.

Actually, is it possible to "Subscribe" to a topic without posting in it? If not, my suggestion may not work without that ability?
This should be an opt-in feature, and I don't think most people would opt in.
The only reason to be wary of the feature would be if the forum were overrun by spammers, which I don't believe is the case. If anyone had a question about anything I've added to the database, I'd be happy to be notified about the question. If it's a coin I've added, I'm probably the best one to know if I attributed it to a particular country or stated it was a certain metal because I actually know (and how I know), or whether it was just a wild guess (I don't add things to the database on a wild guess, but you know what I mean). Even people who have added thousands of coins do it out of a desire to contribute - and if I've added something and it's not clear, I'd like to know as many I do that for every coin I add without knowing it is not clear.
