For the moment the list of banks of Sweden is, to say the least, very confusing. To me, as a Swede, I barely understand what is what, and when I finally found the main, National bank, it was called "Central Bank". It sure is the central bank, but the local - and international - name is Riksbanken. It contains of two words, the latter being banken, which means The Bank. The first word is Riks which comes from the word Rike, meaning Nation or Country in modern speech. So, it would be correct to rename "Central Bank of Sweden" to the more correct "National Bank of Sweden".

This is unless the name Riksbanken is not be used, even though this is the international name as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sveriges_riksbank

https://www.riksbank.se/en-gb/

Cheers!
'Riks' actually comes from the German word 'Reichs' - both meaning 'Realm'.

The word 'Rigs' in both Danish & Norwegian also comes from 'Reichs' as well.

All three Scandinavian languages & English are all Germanic languages.

I think 'Sveriges Riksbank' means 'Bank of the Swedish Realm' or 'Bank of the Kingdom of Sweden' when translated into English from Swedish.

There were other banks in Sweden that also had their own banknote issues, but those have since ceased.

Actually, English is both a Germanic and a Romance language. About 58% of the English vocabulary comes from Romance.

Especially from French & Latin.

English borrows from most languages it comes into contact with - & forms the basis for creole & pidgin languages in some parts of the world.

I'm not gonna argue about the meaning of "rike" with you, since my knowledge of the Swedish language, as well as the Norwegian and Danish, is far superior than yours. It's actually quite laughable that you are trying to tell me what is "actually" means. :D

Anyway, you don't really talks about realms in the modern world, and the meaning in Swedish doesn't really means "realm" either. It's a more formal word for "country". We use it in words like "konungarike" wich means "kingdom", and the law book of Sweden is called "Sveriges Rikes Lag" (The Law of Sweden). The only informal word I can think of is "örike" which mean "island nation". So yes, it means "nation".

But sure, we can go with "realm" if you want to, but then you should refere to Sweden as the "Royal Realm of Sweden", instead of "Kingdom of Sweden". ;)

I do have a basic knowledge of German, which is pretty helpful, considering how closely related to English it really is.

I wasn't trying to tell you to put lipstick on a pig to say it is another animal, when it is still clearly a pig.

Sweden is the only Scandinavian country whose monarch has absolutely no power at all - unlike the Queen of Denmark & the King of Norway.

You know I am from Sweden, right? ;)

I already know of that site. Whag is it you want to show me? The use of Sveriges Riksbank? I've already told you it's called Sveriges Riksbank in English as well.
In German the literal translation would be 'Schwedische Reichsbank' but it is 'Schwedische Nationalbank' or the original name 'Sveriges riksbank' in actual use.
It is also a central bank but that is a titel for the job it also dose not a name.

Those are the notes not issued by the Sveriges Riksbank.

There are probably hundreds of private and local banks that have issued banknotes in Sweden during the years, but that has nothing to do with anything.
