Another recent post caused me to check the mint database, and realize we are missing most mints used by the Kingdom of Poland, and Poland-Lithuania Commonwealth. Here is a start, with date ranges based on coins in our catalog in Poland and adjacent countries, or opening/closing dates cited in Gumowski for certain 16th-18th century Polish mints. I have included German names of places formerly in medieval Teutonic Order/Prussia (Bydgoszcz/Bromberg, Elbląg/Elbing, Gdańsk/Danzig, Malbork/Marienburg, Toruń/Thorn, Wschowa/Fraustadt) in case that's helfful

Bydgoszcz, Poland (also known as Bromberg) 1594-1687. I see we have some undated coins in our catalog with date ranges out to 1696, but these are not correct, as the mint was closed in 1687 according to Gumowski. Notgeld in 1919
Elbląg, Poland (a.k.a. Elbing) 1446-1763. Notgeld struck in 1918
Gdańsk / Danzig, Poland 1217-1937
Gniezno, Poland 1107-1238
Grünthal, Germany 1621-1763
Guben, Germany (a.k.a. Gubin) 1750-1755. Notgeld struck in 1917
Kraków, Poland (a.k.a. Cracow) ? - 1765
Lublin, Poland 1595-1601
Lviv, Ukraine (a.k.a. Lwów ) 1333-1662
Malbork, Poland (a.k.a. Marienburg) 1584-1601
Olkusz, Poland 1578-1601
Poznań, Poland (a.k.a. Posen) 1179-1666. Coins of the 19th century Duchy of Posen were not struck here. Notgeld 1916-1920
Toruń (a.k.a. Thorn) 1414-1765. Notgeld in 1918
Tykocin, Lithuania 1564-1566
Warsaw, Ujazdów 1659-1665
Warsaw 1765-present
Wschowa, Poland (a.k.a Fraustadt) 1386-1655
Just adding on two

Gniezno, Poland 1107-1238
add the naming Gnesen, used of mintage of Notgeld

Lviv, Ukraine (a.k.a. Lwów ) 1333-1662
I would also add the naming Lemberg

  • Bydgoszcz - Already listed, added dates.
  • Grünthal - I found a couple: what would be the current location/city? (needed to add on the map)
  • Warsaw - Already existing under Mint of Poland.

All others added.

Note:

So far it's not possible to add alternative names (Gnessen, etc.); current options are name in local language and names in either French, English, Spanish (idem for location).

We'll discuss the creation of an alternative_name parameter to solve this kind of matter (alternative names for cities or for mint names).

Lemberg was part of the Hapsburg monarchy as part of this area;

Lemberg was in fact its capital.

On Grunthal, it is NOT the one in Bavaria (should be in Saxony or Poland).  I will consult Gumowski and post the answer here later.

Edit:  It is in the Ore Mountains on the Germany-Czech Republic border (I think on the Germany side).

GPS coordinates are 50 / 39 / 01 N , and 13 /22 / 08 E .

Ore Mountains - Wikipedia  (but it is not easy to find the info).

It is this one here https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saigerhütte_Grünthal

nowadays called Olbernhau
