We do not yet have these Ireland mints in our list.  Examples of coins in the catalog are included where available.  More are being added daily  and I am confident we will have examples from each mint shortly.

Carrickfergus (1190-1205)  1 Farthing - Anonymous (John of Courcy, Lord of Ulster) - Ireland – Numista

Cork (1272-1490)  ½ Penny - Edward I (Fifth coinage, Cork) - Ireland – Numista

Downpatrick (1190-1205)  1 Farthing - Anonymous (John of Courcy, Lord of Ulster) - Ireland – Numista

Drogheda (1470-1483)  1 Groat - Edward IV (Light cross coinage; Drogheda) - Ireland – Numista

Limerick (1190-1691) ½ Penny - John I (Third REX coinage, Limerick) - Ireland – Numista

Royal Irish Mint, Dublin (995 - 1695)

Trim (1470-1483)

Waterford (1190-1490)  1 Penny - Edward I (Second coinage, Waterford) - Ireland – Numista

‘Royal Irish Mint, Dublin’ should also be added as well - as there were coins struck in Dublin prior to the 18th. Century.

Which catalogue are you using? The term ‘John I’ is not used. Extant terms which are used in the literature should be used in the catalogue, rather than creating new ones. Essentially, there are two phases for Irish coinage of John: John as Lord, John as King - this is how the coins are described. A listing should distinguish between these two, as this is how people study and collect the coins.

Yes I know, but I guess I just went along with what was on numista before I came.

No worries - an excellent reference is www.irishcoinage.com - you will find an accurate study of the coins there.

Aidan.

Thank you.

I think this is the only mint currently available for Dublin (or Ireland), Irish Mint, Dublin, Ireland – Numista  and coins from medieval to modern times are being assigned to it, but maybe this is incorrect??

These have now been changed to use the terms in Spink (First Coinage.  Second DOMinus coinage. Third REX coinage).

Grateful for all of these kinds of inputs as the Ireland catalog grows!

The current Irish Mint in Dublin was opened in around 1976.

Aidan.

I have amended the original list to include this.

My understanding is that coins were minted in Dublin under “royal” authority intermittently from 995 to 1696, based on a quick skim of Spink?  If these dates are not correct, please suggest revision.

Thanks!

These are now added. :)

Thanks.

Only coins since the 1970's should be under the 'Irish Mint, Dublin' listing - excluding those struck at other mints, such as the Royal Mint.
