Hi,

Currently we have a the French DROM-COM a bit messy in our catalogue.

What about to stick with the administrative status of these French territories?

My sugestion would be to create:

1 - “French overseas departments and regions” (DROM En/Fr):

and behind it:

- > French Guiana (currently: France › French Guiana)

- > Guadeloupe (currently: France › Guadeloupe and France › French West Indies)

- > Martinique (currently: France › Martinique)

- > Mayotte (currently: France › Mayotte)

- > Réunion (currently: France › Réunion)

and:

2 - “French overseas collectivities” (COM En/Fr):

 and behind it:

- > French Polynesia (currently: French Polynesia)

- > Saint Barthélemy (currently: Saint Barthélemy)

- > Saint Martin (New)

- > Saint-Pierre and Miquelon (currently: France › Saint-Pierre and Miquelon)

- > Wallis and Futuna (currently: France › Wallis and Futuna)

New Caledonia and Clipperton Island have to stand alone as these territories are not part of DROM nor COM nor TAAF.

Hello,

I have some doubts about this proposal. The status of these territories has involved several times in recent history. I'm not sure that using the current status of the territories (DROM/COM) to group coins from older periods really makes sense.

I see it like Russia and USSR, in our catalogue USSR is under Russia when at that time it was really different.

I would suggest to create a single sub section “French overseas” gathering all these entities. Not sure separating Départements and Collectivités brings value to collectors

If you do so, you have to include New Caledonia and that's not the idea.

Also with regards to French, French overseas isn't correct anymore:

OM in DROM or COM stands for Overseas, so I think it is OK to gather both in it

Even if I am not in favor of it I should recognize it's a good point that adapt not only current situation but also to the past as Windward Islands.

Nightly update failed yesterday, so tomorrow :-)

It's all updated this morning.

Just a point, should we not create a new territory under Reunion call Bourbon Island (Île Bourbon).

As we have now some coins directly link under Reunion without much explication.

seems we already have a specific issuer for those: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?e=iles-de-france-et-bonaparte&r=&ct=coin&im1=&im2=&tb=y&tc=y&tn=y&tp=y&tt=y&cat=y&ru=&ca=3&no=&v=&i=&b=&d=&u=&a=&dg=&m=&f=&t=&w=&mt=&g=&se=&c=&wi=&sw=

The coins I am speaking about are from Île Bourbon not Îles de France et Bourbon, Iles de france and Bourbon are Mauritius with Reunion, I am speaking about the coins issued for Île Bourbon only.

You are right. It is because it is the same issuer that we didnt created specific sub section only based on the change of name (like Ceylan / Sri Lanka)

As you can see here, the Island was in both Norway and France hands:

Saint Barthélemy was first claimed by France in 1648. The island was given to Sweden in exchange for trade rights in Gothenburg in 1784 and Sweden founded the Swedish West India Company. Prospering during the Napoleonic Wars, assets were low thereafter, and the island was sold back to France in 1878.

So the island is french and the coin can be divided with issuers.

Well, sorry to disagree, it says Browse the catalogue by issuer, and in this case the issuer mentionned on the coin is “ISLE DE BOURBON” so or we change the name of this search engine to adapt to what we are doing or we are not consistence with our way to catalog:

Sorry I'm just seeking for consistency.

I know that but all coins attached to the issuer are curently swedish, I'm afraid it would be confusing for users ?

I know that but all coins attached to the issuer are curently swedish, I'm afraid it would be confusing for users ?

So you suggest to keep it as a stand alone issuer?

Another idea can be to create a Saint Barthélemy behind Sweden for the swedish coins

And another Saint Barthélemy behind France Overseas for the french coin.

I am not sure if it's aligne with the guideline but the current Sweddish flag for the french coins is not accurate and aligne with the guideline neither.

I jut tried somethign: attach new alternative names to Reunion issuer. Let's wait tomorrow to see if it works for this field :-)

No I just raise questions :-)
Maybe we could ask Xavier to alternate french and swedish flags for this issuer indeed, and put it under french overseas
It is a rare case of difference coins/exonumia :-)
