trades gone wrong Hmmmm

Pubblicazioni di 6 • visto 216 volte

I am a little gutted= for the first time in nearly 10 years, and over 650 trades I am extremely disappointed in a trade

I received today a letter containing 6 Notgeld , that were in very poor condition

one i  graded as G and was held together with a old postage stamp

5  others slightly better but still no better than VG

It is entirely my fault, and after sending trader a scan of my notes, should of insisted on getting scan of his

to check condition

I do not think that trade was worth the cost of postage, and have graded low ( first time ever less than 3 stars)

On the other hand i have put the 6 notes into my collection, to remind me of my failings. I somehow like well circulated notes (a few only)

and wonder about there original use and what was bought with them- How many times did they change hands. Far better to have slighty used F-XF than  UNC that the pedigree is suspect on (reprints for tourists etc)

There my rant is over lesson learned, and will be more careful in the future

My 1st/last attempt at a trade (2 years ago) with a 10 year veteran, who described all his notes as UNC, was just as you described.  He now has over 800 trades & most of his feedback is positive except a few where he sold circulated coins described as UNC (members have correctly flagged him).  A few other members have reported his notes as anything but “Uncirculated” (with stains & fingerprint marks on them) just like I got. I was fortunate b/c he took the soiled (VG-F) notes back but I have been very hesitant to initiate or accept another swap since.

I don't believe it was entirely your fault: if the swap partner has over graded the notes/coins than he/she is partly culpable too. He/she needs to learn how to grade or comment that they are unsure (leave it ungraded & discuss). A scan of a banknote is very deceptive. Photos are only slightly more better but they need to be done in a way as to show the note's wrinkles (there's a technique that few have mastered).

Thats the trouble though- he did not over grade but did not grade at all or mention condition

I have learnt my lesson

Just as a bit of adventure i have scanned the entire trade

The top right (repaired with a stamp) i grade as only G  good

The other 5 as VG

they actually appear better than they are but alot of folds , creases etc difficult to see on these other 5 as well

Am I being to tough??????  MAYBE  the little freiberg is nearly fine but looks worse than scan

I don't think so.  It is difficult to go by the scan but the 2 best notes appear to be the green 5, bottom 25 & 20 Pfennig.  These might be Fine (or almost F like VG+ for the 20) depending on how much design has been removed on the centre horizontal & vertical folds.  The others all have design worn off and extensive wear, edge nicks/tears (+ issues like design removed, marks or stains) so G to VG.

Thankyou for your support- I feel a lot better about the trade

When buying/ trading notgelds you expect a few VG, but not the whole lot (6)

Funny thing is the trader has not complained about the low rating

Yes I agree that the little 5 PF is almost  F- but in hand it is not good enough (as you say VG+)
