Hi, I suggest an improvement for research by references:
- if the search gives results, then nothing changes
- if the results are null, then I suggest to give results with same chain of characters but between * to maybe help user find relevant data
It is because many references fields are “polluted” by characters like commas, dashes, parenthesis etc, due to inconsistencies in editing and also due to some reference catalog making mandatory to add such special characters (for instance MEC is divided in many books, which forces up to begin with the number of the volume, then the reference number; depending on editing policies, we have commas, dashes or just blank spaces in between)
SO for instance, someone put “851” in search area for the reference “MEC” and got no results: https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?r=&ct=coin&im1=&im2=&tb=y&tc=y&tn=y&tp=y&tt=y&cat=y&ru=&ca=49&no=851&v=&i=&b=&d=&u=&a=&dg=&m=&f=&t=&w=&mt=&g=&se=&c=&wi=&sw=
We would add just below something like “we found no exact match, but here results for a larger search on our DB” and he would got results for “*851*” like here: https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?r=&ct=coin&im1=&im2=&tb=y&tc=y&tn=y&tp=y&tt=y&cat=y&ru=&ca=49&no=*851*&v=&i=&b=&d=&u=&a=&dg=&m=&f=&t=&w=&mt=&g=&se=&c=&wi=&sw=
(we could anyway provide these extra results even when the normal search gave results, btw)
