Greetings,

I was wondering if a ”Stamp Catalogue” could be added to Numista? This is because stamps could be used as value for mail and I feel stamps go well with banknotes and coins. Just consider it. Also I feel Numista would be a good place for a stamp collecting area.

Thank you for your time and attention.

It was multiple times decided that Numista will not add stamps other then in a handful of specific cases. We don't need nor most of us want to become Colnect 2.0.

I understand that, but why not add stamps, what problems will it cause? If we add stamps we can appeal to a larger group of collectors. Also I am not saying add baseball cards, I am saying add stamps which are issued by the government to be used. It is more than a hobby, it is a history. I am not a full on stamp collector but just feel if we include exonumia, why do we not include stamps?

Your request demonstrates your positive appreciation of the functional structure of Numista.
This site has already opened to tokens and banknotes with all the exonumias that this has generated
he also created a double, twin copy in the Spanish language
the opening to stamps could be done by the creation of a site in its image dedicated to this category of collection with exonumias flames, postmarks, first day cover etc...
with transfer or delegation of rights

To quote Xavier:

"No. Numista is only about numismatics."

"I'm not interested to expand Numista beyond numismatics (in the broad sense of the term, including coins, banknotes, medals, tokens, etc.)"

“Numista is the right place to discuss about coins and related fields (tokens, banknotes), but there will be no forum for stamps.”

During money shortage, stamps were often used as currency, so the proposal make sense as it's very close to numismatics. In fact, in some countries like Spain this is the same mint that produce banknotes, stamps and coins.

So for me, I see the idea relevant, where I struggle to see the benefits is that in general stamps collectors are less and less you can guess it seeing at the price of stamps over time. Colcnet database is about 1 000 000 pages for stamps, so the amount of work compare to the benefits is too low for me, but I will not vote against this idea just because I see it difficult. I respect the stamps collectors and would like to see them express their need or not to organize their collection and swap through our Numismatic platform.

Always look on the bright side of life!

So could Xavier create another website almost identical to Numista but with stamps? Maybe it could be called “Philista” for stamps?

No he is not interested in stamps, but you seem passionate about this. There are many software/ internet solutions to make your own website and database if you don't know how and at the beginning even a Homeserver would suffice.

You could also learn these things if you not already do. It's never too late to learn something new especially if you are driven enough.

Would you suggest using Colnect for stamps or is there a better website for stamps?

Hello,

I have no interest in adding mail stamps to Numista or creating another site for stamps.
