Colombia 2 000 Pesos P# 439 ver -a and -b [Risolto]

Pubblicazioni di 8 • visto 112 volte

Hi,

what is the difference between the -a and -b entries  for Colombia's 2 000 Pesos P# 439?

On banknotes that I have, I notice different coloration for different years, mainly visible as orange color on the ground portion of the painting (reverse) and on the right side of the numeral “2” printed on the left corner of the same side, much similar to the colors on previous years that had the Pesos Oro denomination (P#430, P#433a).  On the comments for one note of these, it is stated that the difference in letter is due to different printing companies, while the other doesn't specify (what is Aa vs Ab).

I hope this photo helps explain what I mean.

All 3 notes are P439, and from top to bottom, they are issued on:

17-Dic-1994

 1-Nov-1994

   1-Jul-1993

As can be seen in the photo, the printer is the same for all.

Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.

Good morning Ruibai,

You are right, it is about the orange color on back.

So, p#439a: with orange color - p#439b: without orange color.

This is the documented rules.

BUT, some banknote from 1994-Jul-01, are known with orange color… as some partners told me.

So can be not a true rule. It is a guess.

Regards.

Thank you Poporo for the clarification on “a” and “b” documented rules.

btw, where could I find these documents or rules?

Are they Numista's or from some other source?

Good morning Ruibai,

The “Krause” (Standard Catalof of World Paper Money Modern Issues . 1961-present), gives this specifications for p#439:

a. 1.7.1993.

b. Orange omitted from back 1.7.1994; 1. 11. 1994; 17. 12. 1994.

No information in Hernandez.

Regards.

Thank You!

According to the Banknote Book and pictures at the Bank Note Museum the notes dated

July 1993 and July 1994 have orange colour in the vigentte

Nov 1994 and Dec 1994 have no orange

Clearly, Krause and BNB are different.

The Numista listing for July 1994 should be changed according to BNB. It's 439a not 439b.

Good morning redlock,

I do not have the “BankNote Book”.

The website ”Banknote.ws” shows clearly a notes from July 1st 1994 with orange color: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/countries/AME/COL/COL0439.htm

The reference p#439a and p#439b are created by the “Krause”, so i do not know if changes can be approved on Numista…

(I am using 20th edition of the “Krause”, is there an update for this note on next editions?)

We can add comments for each year maybe…?

Is there a reference on the “BankNote Book” as p#439?

Regards.

Poporo

Yes, the July 1994 has the orange colour in the vignette. I concur and I said that 😉

In my opinion, the Bank Not Museum has assigned the wrong number.

BNM gives 439b for July 1994 with colour. But the number for July 1994 should be the same as for July 1993: 439a

These two dates have the colour in the vignette.

Is there a reference on the “BankNote Book” as p#439?

The Bank Note Book gives two ''BNB numbers'' for these 2000 Pesos notes:

B977 for July 1993 and July 1994 (the ones with the orange colour)

B978 for Nov 1994 and Dec 1994  (the ones without the orange colour)

The Bank Note Book says P439 for B977 and B978, no letter added to the P number.

(at least, in the version which I have)

I meant the numbering for July 1994 here at numista should be changed.
