I suggest to replace the current term "currency" by "mass unit" for bars and rounds. Then, I suggest to add two mass units: Ounce (oz) and Kilogram (kg) (+ others if you have ideas).
Currently, the monetary units are a legacy of the old exonumia classification system but are no longer relevant. Some countries (UK) use the currency section to classify the different series. Now that we have a new classification system and a box to notify the series, these old denominations are obsolete.
Adding Kilogram or Ounce will be useful to give a reference (even if it seems logical). Example : Value: 1 Gram Gold (0.01) Mass Unit : Kilogram
or
Value: 1/4 Once Silver (0.25) Mass Unit : Troy Once
N.B It would also be useful to list the different types of ounces for further clarification.
I've looked through the bars catalogue, and here are the four mass units I've spotted: - Kilogram (N#272067) - Troy Ounce (N#287876) - Ounce avoirdupoids (N#301959) - Grain (N#238191)
Actually, I think we can leave the box with the weight (in grams), but we can add a window that opens with the equivalences if we move the mouse over it. However, I don't know if this would be relevant, knowing that sometimes ingots announce 1 Troy ounce (31.1g), while the ingot actually weighs (31.3g). Does this mean that we would make the equivalences on the theoretical or actual weight?
No one here can do anything, except Xavier ;-) I suggest you post a new thread as “Idea to improve Numista”, because it is not really a modification request you made
