Hi,

As we decided to keep the Andorran diner in the coin catalog knowing it’s a non-legal tender currency:

Closing this request as we decided, after some discussion to keep them in the catalogue. It will allow government sanctioned collector currencies in the catalogue, even though they are not technically coins.

We should create a new type of coin for them as the current “Non-circulating coin” doesn’t fit them very well, a non circulated coin still allow you to pay (by law), as it bears a legal tender value.

What about:

Collector issue

I would be OK with Andorran coins being listed as “non-legal tender currency”.

However, what this the threshold for this type of “coinage”? Are coins issued by American Indian tribes also in this category?

“Non-legal tender currency” are privately issued payment instruments – such as cheques, guarantee and payment cards, bank and postal accounts, and electronic money and as such this makes no sense for these objects which have zero buying power. They are simply medals with some text emulating the look of money.

You can slap pattern on them to give them a slight reason to be in coins instead of exonumia (where they actually belong).

Even if I agree with all previous arguments, that is not the discussion here. My only point is, as it seems that the decision was taken, please integrate a new type of coin to make sure that these token can't be taken for coins by new collectors.

Hello, as a referee of the Andorran coins and banknotes section, I would like to comment:

1. I am not going to go further into the debate on whether Andorra's "coins" should be in the coins section or in the exonumia section, since the final decision (with which I fully agree) has already been made.

2. In relation to the content of this Topic, I think that the option to create a new type called "Collector issue" could be correct, but in case you do not want to create a new type, the "Non-circulating coin" category is the one would be closer to the type of currency of Andorra.

As someone that's not very familiar with the issue, what's the difference between the Andorran diners and the Dutch ECUs, that are listed as exonumia? The latter were also government-adjacent, no? Is it just a reflection of whether they are featured on Krause Publications' “KM” or “X” catalogs?

Perhaps off-topic: why are some Order of Malta scudi listed as coin and others as exonumia, when they all have a “X” number?
