I have stayed in this site for a while swapping ,not problems at all. Excellent partners swapping coins.

But I have noticed that a lot of people just swap coins.

Not chance to swap banknotes so often.

Completely agree with you.

Reached out to 3 contributing collectors here & not even a “no thank you” reply.

Haven't had to many offers lately on my banknotes, don't have many but I always say Thank you or no thank you, that's just respect for fallow swapers.

I'm going to add hundreds of banknotes to my swap list over the next few days.

A mix of countries and denominations and conditions.

I've been waiting for a good wet weekend to stay inside and go through my doubles.

Check my swap list next week!

Let's make some trades.

I find exchanging banknotes is getting harder now. This is my opinion.

1) many collectors would offer you their own nation's notes in return for my foreign notes;

2) notes offered are mostly cheap and common notes;

3) the value of exchange is not worth the effort due to high registered postage cost from my end. It would be cheaper for me to buy from dealers;

4) despite repeatedly requests, notes received are not always in UNC condition ie visible flaws (not cutting cup mark);

5) short change for me once ie missing 2 notes that was agreed upon;

6) and then, the trust issue, who is going to send first? I have doubt with some countries postal security issues, where even a registered post can get tempered with. Imagine when the mail arrived with a staple in the middle of the letter, or someone had it opened and removed most of the notes and leave few pieces for me.

7) also beware of potential crooks.

I like to contact collectors for exchange of current series of banknotes of their own country with mine at face value. In my opinion, this would be the best way to get them, after all, it would be the cheapest way to get what I want, especially I only go for new or current issues.

I also have tried to swap bank notes, I have quite a few from various countries, most in unc condition. Nobody wants to swap. Go figure.

same with me. Finding banknotes swapper has now become difficult.

In my opinion, I like to offer banknotes of my country and in return I would ask for the same to. This way, we do not have to worry about catalogue value, and I always go for current issues at face value. I do sometime offer few foreign notes just to sweeten the deal or to cover the differences/shortfall. The downside is that as banknotes are not always released annually, you tend to run out of offer/stock after a while. The other problem is that if you have strong currency, not many people would go for your notes too.

As you said strong currency, us dollar to aussie 1/0.71 not exactly a fair trade.  Also too expensive to ship. Postage has gone  thru the roof. 1.45 per oz.

No, you are referring to 1 for 1 note and no one in the right mind would do that, as I can offer you Indonesia 1000 rupiah for your USD, one for one. I was referring to face value. If you have offered me a USD $10, I will have to give you AUD $14, or perhaps round it up to A$15, or the $4 value equivalent in other currencies. I have done this many times with collectors.

I use a different site for banknotes. This here is great for coins, not so much for banknotes. I'm talking about swapping not the site it self. This site is new to banknotes and we somehow need to bring banknote swappers to this site. Just my two cents worth.

Colnect

Colnect is very quite. The only active one are the stamp collectors, which I really envy. The stamps section there have posts almost everyday. However, many collectors there like to work behind the scenes, as I received few requests for exchange, but only successfully traded once for all the years I have been a member there.

Hi!

The catalog of banknotes registered at Numista, compared to that of coins, still has a long way to go; but I believe it is a matter of a short time to have here the best virtual banknote catalog (as it already is for coins!).

I was very excited about the inclusion of banknotes here on the site, as I am a fan of Numista and believe that we can have, in one place, both of our registered collections with the wealth of information and details that we already know here.

I believe that in a short time we will have more banknote collectors and, consequently, more offers for exchanges and negotiations! I myself need to register my Brazilian banknotes for exchange.

Greetings everyone!

I agree with vladthiengo!

I, too, was excited to see Numista add banknotes to its catalog, it is a HUGE task and will take time to mature.

Soon, I hope, Numista will attract more banknote collectors, but for now it is just a handful of collectors so trades are few and far between.

Am new here and am from UAE and I am looking for swap bank notes

I think the biggest problem with note collectors is that almost all of us have almost the same notes to offer. These are cheap banknotes from Cambodia, Nepal, Mongolia, Venezuela and so on.

With "more expensive" banknotes, it is very difficult to find an equivalent with the person you want to exchange with. For example, someone wants 1000 Croatian kuna from me, I want 100 US dollars from him, and there is a gap. I have his cheaper ones, and he has nothing else to offer from other countries, so he offers to cover the difference by paying me through Paypal. I don't think that's fair.

If we exchange according to the exchange rate, then the entire swap should go that way, and not a part covered by payment. Because we all have costs when we acquire UNC banknotes, either from our own country or from other countries.

I am collector of UNC world banknotes.
Coins i do not collect, but i can swap them for banknotes.

You are not alone. Sadly, many collectors out there are doing the very same as you have described. What I encountered most are collectors offering banknotes of their own country and in return asking for your spares from all over the world at face value.

However, when exchanging as face value, I believe small cash top up is reasonable. It is very hard to come to the equal amount. In this case, I am only referring to few dollars. In some cases, I just ignore the small differences.

Welcome to the real world
