Help to identify small Roman coin - Follis, Constantinus I, 337-340, with chariot [Risolto]

Pubblicazioni di 4 • visto 78 volte

Hi,

struggling to find a match with this coin using either image search or “chariot” search.

size - 14.5mm

weight - 1.2g

appearance - unsure, very, very dark.

one side appears to be a chariot with rider, multiple horses, multiple reins, rider to left. Front legs out straight, rear legs bent.

other side unfortunately too dark to read, even with playing with the picture (Possibly helmeted figure facing right)

any help identifying would be much appreciated,

cheers

I found this but I am not sure which mint it is. Check the see also links to try and figure it out but the mintmark appears to be off the flan.

Many thanks, I guess the description could do with a bit of “editing” to actually describe the coin 😃 the other mints mention a Quadriga, but unless you know that is a type of chariot, you wouldn’t find it .

thanks again,

cheers

Your welcome!

There are many types of chariots used in Roman coins, the quadriga has four, a triga has 3 and a biga has 2.

Have a great day!
