Suggestion to help to split year lines properly

I am agree with this but I read the previous  topic and I think the subject must be changed to something like “Send a notice to members when some item of their collection is modified”. Or perhaps I did not understand and I am wrong.🤔

If I understand well, when a year is changed (splitted, renamed, added, removed), or when a year is assigned to a new item, and there are a member with that year/item, now this member have not news about this change and can affect to her collection.

And the suggestion is notify to member about the change. Then, the member can see the change and fix his register record if is needed.

The first is know what members to send this notice: in my opinion, to all members with the item affected in their collections (collections, swap list, wish list, don't wish list). I think this is the problem: can be complex... or not.

The second is know what changes notify: only years, or also changes in fields related with classification (issuer, coin/banknote/exonumia type, ruling authority, issuing bank, issuing entity…). This last one solve this https://en.numista.com/forum/topic95521.html.

The third is how send this notice to each member. Can be by:

• Private message, but this can fill our inbox, and we do not need/must reply to this notice.
• Message in a new page with only this type of notices:
  • The notice only can be read, deleted and perhaps saved, but not reply.
  • Where display this page? Can be a new section (for example, “Items changed”) or perhaps in “Private messages” but in a new “Notices box” (and can be used for other types of notices more later).

In any case, can be added checkboxes in members' profile in order to receive or not these notices (a member can be not interested in receive this):

• Send me notices [in private messages (PM)] of items changed
• Send me an email when I receive notices [in private messages (PM)]

It is, when a member wants to add an extra year line, that is to say a number of members have already entered their coins in the line, and now that line has to be split. 

This is to ensure the best possible way of distributing the existing coins into each of the “new” lines.

Ok. My previous message is a suggestion more general, valid for your case (split/add years) and more cases.

In your case, when an extra year line is added, a notice with this change will be send to members with the item changed in their collection, and each member adapt his records.

That's it. Keep it simple and when that works, extend it, but one demand at the time.
