Too much result for a simple querry [Risolto]

As this topic is now marked as rejected, but the issue is not solved, here I am again.

When I look for Zaire in the coin search it's still 480 coins, and not all are related to Zaire, if I look for France I obviously don't want to see New Caledonia coins.

Also, we are putting Zaire (Congo) and we are putting the flag of Congo instead of Zaire, when we are saying Zaire and in parentheses Congo:

We are assigning as you can see the Congo flag to Zaire, and we are saying in parentheses it's Congo, but again this is not historically true:

I understand that we have an idea running on that, but first we are making change without considering user experience, ending with a way longer process that before (thanks for your quick fix on that) and secondly this idea have more negative votes than positive, so we came from an accurate situation and goes with a situation where we are saying that Zaire never existed.

Can we make sure before we take any changes that we keep at least the same level of historically accuracy as before?

Why should we rush changes when we are obviously not ready?

Let me transform this topic into an idea, as I don't consider it a bug.

The issue you mention is already partially solved, since clicking on “Zaire” in the list of issuers (as in your screenshot) will show the 26 coins you are looking for.

The issue about the flag is discussed separately as you mentioned. Numista has currently a limitation, where only the latest flag of a country is shown (independently of changes of name of the country).

Also, as you use a screenshot from Wikipedia to prove your point that Zaire and the Democratic Republic of Congo are two different countries, I will quote the first two sentences of the Wikipedia page about Zaire:
 

This article is about the history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo between 1971 and 1997 […]

Zaire […] was a Congolese state […] that […] is now […] known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On Numista, we made the choice to consider that Zaire and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the same country and refer to different periods of the country. If I'm interested in the coins from this country, I don't want to be limited to a specific period, unless I use the filter for the period/ruler. I also understand that other use cases may be needed, and I'm happy to discuss how to improve them.

Then why do we have a search engine if it’s not to find a coin in an easy way?
In the past I looked for Zaire and I had only Zaire coin, it’s that easy.

Why do we need to make an improvement while it was working correctly since 2009 to 2023.

We know how to solve all related issues described as they came after we decided to make an unsupported system change.

So no need for improvement we just need to go back to previous system supported situation and when the issues described are all solved then move on.

When you are impacting negatively users experience will you call that an improvement?

That is obviously not the country but the currency like it is everywhere else on Numista too.

I saw the possibilities, and the title of section depends of the selected order:

• Order by facial value, date or reference, the title is: country * currency
• Order by ruling authority, the title is: country * period
• Order by type, the title is: country * type

I made some adjustments to the search engine. Searching for “Zaire” now only returns coins directly associated with Zaire, not other coins from the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC). You'll find coins from RDC with currency Zaire and coins from the period when the RDC was called Zaire.
