Buying Values for Multiple Coins

Hello, I searched through the documentation, FAQs and forums, but don't see an answer to a question I have:

When entering buying value for a quantity of coins, do I enter the total paid or the value of each coin?

Example: if I purchase 3 coins at $30 each, do I enter $90 or $30 in the “buying value” field for the three coins as a group?

I'm not clear if Numista is multiplying or dividing the “buying values” with the quantities.

Technically you can't put any value because you bought a lot not a singular item. I usually buy lots that contain one or two items that interest me, the rest is just a bonus. The value of an item is the amount I am willing to pay for it so I weight the value against my interest, like 80-90% are the main items the rest gets divided.

I do agree with your way of doing it! I just think that the values in Numista are not really realistic, and I will not use them.

You use $30 as the buying value.  Numista will generate a “My values” $90 (3 X $30) for those coins.

Thanks. I'll enter the per-coin price I paid to help contribute to the values shown.  I understand the methodology of calculating the median values and know there are swings in prices based on coin condition, demand, metal spot prices, extras like a COA/capsule/US mint box, and even simply personal sentiment. I've added in the sales tax and shipping costs too but realize that is probably not a good idea so I'll have to go back and change that.  In my mind, I'd like to know the grand total of what I paid to obtain my collection, but those numbers are also being used to crowd-source a relative worth for others.  Clearly no perfect answer for an appraisal of a complete coin collection on an individualized basis, but this site is the closest I've come to accomplishing the goal.  Fortunately I have a good Excel spreadsheet.  Happy to join the community! Oh yes, Excel is also my base, where the Excel collection is also maintained in Numista. The doubles are only in Excel, since I exchange coins with no Numista members, so it's more practical for me to keep them in only one file, where I have all the information about the doubles like, where to find them!

I give priority to my Excel data.
